The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan is offering a fully funded internship program for international students and young professionals in 2025. About the METI Internship Program
The METI Internship Program is designed to promote internationalization of Japanese companies by accepting foreign interns. Participants will engage in various projects, gaining insights into Japanese business practices and culture. The program is open to individuals from OECD/DAC countries, excluding China, who are interested in contributing to the globalization of Japanese enterprises.
Financial Coverage
Selected interns will receive comprehensive financial support, including:
- Round-trip airfare to and from Japan.
- Accommodation arrangements during the internship period.
- Daily allowance of ¥3,000 for in-person internships and ¥1,000 for online internships.
- Provision of necessary equipment, such as laptops and communication devices.
- Assistance with visa acquisition for entry into Japan.
- Internship insurance covering the duration of the program.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Citizenship: Must be a citizen of an OECD/DAC country, excluding China.
- Age: Between 18 and 40 years old as of August 25, 2025.
- Education: Currently enrolled in or graduated from a higher education institution.
- Language Proficiency: Proficient in English or Japanese (JLPT N3 or above).
- Availability: Able to commit to the full duration of the internship.
- Previous Participation: Must not have participated in any previous METI Internship Program.
Internship Duration and Schedule
The internship program offers both in-person and online options:
- In-person internships: Approximately 6 weeks in Japan.
- Online internships: Approximately 4 weeks, conducted remotely.
The internship periods are scheduled as follows:
- First Term: August 25 – September 24, 2025
- Second Term: October 1 – November 19, 2025
- Third Term: November 5 – December 21, 2025
